Bison Really Are the Best

Some baby bison footage for you.
1

Bison calves are popping up everywhere! We never get tired of watching them, so I put together some of my favorite footage from the last few days so you can enjoy the calves along with us.

I headed into the park late the other evening, chasing the light before it faded for the day. I passed car upon car returning to Mammoth Hot Springs, abandoning the park for the day and leaving wide open, empty roads to explore on my own.

May is glorious in the park. It’s like a switch flips and all of a sudden the sparseness of winter has turned to the abundance of spring. I don’t really have any other word than magic. Especially in the evening gloaming like today, when the last of the light slants golden over greening hills, the cries of osprey, bald eagles, geese, red winged and yellow headed blackbirds and sandhill cranes fill the air. Little red bison claves spring and prance along with the herds marching across the landscape. The creeks are loud, filling with snowmelt. The air smells like life, and hope.

A Yellowstone Life is free for everyone. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any stories!

The green valleys framed by snow covered peaks is nothing short of breathtaking. There’s an urgency to spring and summer-the constant pull or itch to spend as much time outside in the glory as much as we humanly can. And it’s never enough.
